<p>During 21 to 23 September 2017, the 88th annual meeting of the Zoological Society of Japan was held in Toyama prefecture. As one symposium of it on 21 September 2017, the Japanese Society of Systematic Zoology Symposium 2017 entitled 'Evolutionary traits of arthropods toward extreme environments: Dangerous reality for taxonomists in the study field' was conducted at Toyama Prefectural Civic Center (Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture). The five interesting lectures were given by the special invited speakers: Satoshi Shimano 'Strategy of mites for maintaining diversity', Taizo Nakamori & Seikoh Saitoh 'DNA barcoding and community analyses using next-generation sequencing in Collembola', Shimpei F. Hiruta 'Terrestrial ostracods', Yoshihisa Fujita 'Crustacean fauna in submarine and anchialine caves of the Ryukyu Islands' and Takashi Komatsu 'Diversity of Japanese troglobiontic arthropods'.</p>

福岡県(宗像市・みやま市),新潟県(糸魚川市)および鹿児島県(屋久島) から獲られた 5 個体の標本に基づいて本属の標徴を改め,種の標徴を与えた.これらの個体は,胴感杯の後部側面が三角形に尖っていること,胴感毛が緩やかに曲がっており,その刺の数が 15-17 本であること,背毛 tims より前方に位置すること, 背毛 p1,p2,p3 は他の背毛と同様に基部が太く先端に向かって細くなること,基節毛 4c が存在すること,基節毛 3b4c3c と同様に細長く途中で大きく曲がっていることなどの特徴で,模式種に基づく原記載とは異なっていることが分かった.本種は,これまでの記録から北海道(久遠郡せたな町)から鹿児島県(トカラ列島・中之島)までの日本の冷温帯から暖温帯までの多くの地域で採集されていることや,生息場所の多くは樹木下の土壌であることが分かった.

<p>The International Society of Protistologists (ISOP) published a new classification of eukaryotes using 'supergroups' in 2005, which was subsequently revised in 2012. The revised classification now reflects the knowledge of protist evolution, reintroduces some formality with group names and their authority, and provides a point of reference for protist systematics. In the present review, the ISOP's revised classification with five supergroups is compared with a hierarchical classification of the Catalogue of Life (CoL)'s database and then the significance of the following three main points are explained: (i) the Chromalveolata hypothesis was rejected and the supergroup SAR was accepted, (ii) Amorphea (including mainly Amoebozoa and Opisthokonta) was proposed, and (iii) Diaphoretickes (including mainly SAR, Archaeplastida, and a group once called "Hacrobia") with the exception of Excavata was also proposed.</p>

沖縄県国頭村のリュウキュウチク植生下の土壌とリターから採集したフクロフリソデダニ属の未記載種を Neoribates (Neoribates) incisus(オキナワフクロフリソデダニ)として記載した.本種は体長が大きい,吻先端が尖るという点においてネパールから報告されている N. (N.) parabulanovae Ermilov and Martens に類似するが,先端が鋭く細まらない桿棒状の胴感毛をもつ,後体部後端に切れ込みをもつ,肛側毛 ad1, ad2 が ad3 よりも明らかに長いという点で後者と区別できる.

Current higher level classification of eukaryotes are reviewed. In the past 15 years, modern morphological and biochemical approaches, and molecular phylogenetic studies have led to extensive modification of traditional classification schemes for eukaryotes. The most dramatic changes have occurred within protists, from which multicellular organisms evolved. There has to be a shift away from the emphasis on authorships and ranks toward Glade name stability. The new classification with "super-groups" of eukaryotes of ISOP (the International Society of Protistologists) 2005 version which reflects the knowledge of protist evolution, has reintroduced some formality with group names and their authority, and provides a point of reference for protist systematics. In addition to this classification and classical kingdom concept, some new concepts (i.e. "megagroup") are introduced.

The molecular analysis of ciliates for identification and phylogeny is usually conducted through PCR amplification and DNA sequencing, with DNA extracted from a large number of cells. Therefore, the analysis of ciliates is limited to only those species that can be cultured. We propose a single-cell PCR procedure to overcome the difficulty in the analysis of unculturable species. The procedure has been tested on 6 Stichotrichia strains and uncultured Levicoleps biwae cells, targeting 18S rRNA gene sequences, after carrying out microscopic observations and obtaining photographic records. This procedure enables the systematic analysis of unculturable ciliate strains in natural environments by linking the morphology and genotype of a single cell.

A PCR primer set was designed to amplify the 18S rRNA gene from the phylum Ciliophora (ciliates). The pair amplified DNA from 5 organisms representing the major taxonomic groups of ciliates but not from 13 nonciliate organisms. To test the ability of the primers to amplify ciliate rRNA genes from environmental samples, a clone library was constructed from an agricultural soil sample and analyzed. The rRNA gene sequences of all clones were affiliated with the Ciliophora. This newly developed PCR primer set is able to amplify ciliate rRNA genes from soil, and may be useful for the detection and identification of ciliates.

Denegri (1993) reviewed worldwide instances of oribatid mites as an intermediate host of Anoplocephalid cestodes (tapeworm). In Japan, only four records of cysticercoids in oribatid mites have been reported, although many investigations have been made on grazing lands. The oribatid species as an intermediate host previously reported from Japan are Eporibatula sakamorii, Scheloribates laevigatus, Mixacarus exilis and one unidentified species. The distribution of intermediate species is discussed according to the systematic scheme of suborder Oribatida.

Camisia solhoeyi Colloff is first recorded from Japan. This species can easily be distinguished from its Japanese congeners by setae h1, which are shortest of the notogastral setae. A well known species C. lapponica (Tr&auml;g&aring;rdh) is very similar to C. solhoeyi, and so previous records of the former should be re-examined.

セアカゴケグモの営巣場所として, 大阪湾沿いの大阪府岸和田市の空地に1996年5月から翌年6月まで411本の塩ビ管トラップを設置し, セアカゴケグモの生息の有無, 齢期などを観察記録した。その結果, 42個のトラップで52個体が確認された。冬期には雌雄成体, 各齢期幼体が営巣し, 産卵も認められた。
